Dizziness, Vertigo and Balance Problems
Precise Diagnoses and Treatments

Issues with dizziness, vertigo, and balance can not only be concerning but disruptive to your daily life. Here, we aim to provide a clear understanding of these conditions, their causes, symptoms, and available treatment options.

What is Dizziness?

Dizziness refers to a general feeling of lightheadedness or unsteadiness, which can vary in intensity from mild to severe. It is a common symptom experienced by people of all ages and can occur for various reasons. Dizziness may manifest as a sensation of spinning, feeling off-balance, wooziness, or faintness.

Understanding Vertigo

Vertigo is a specific type of dizziness characterized by a false sensation of movement or spinning, often described as the room spinning around you. It is caused by a disturbance in the inner ear or the brain's processing of balance-related signals. Vertigo can be triggered by head movements or changes in body position.

Balance Problems

Balance problems refer to difficulties maintaining stability or a steady posture. People with balance issues may experience unsteadiness, frequent falls, or a feeling of being off-balance. Balance problems can arise from various factors, including inner ear disorders, neurological conditions, musculoskeletal problems, medication side effects, or certain medical conditions.

DIAGNOSTIC TESTING

Videonystagmography (VNG) testing measures how well a person can follow objects with his or her eyes and how well the person’s eyes respond to vestibular system information. A VNG tests central motor and inner ear functioning. This testing can determine if the cause of dizziness and balance problems is inner ear disease, as opposed to something else, such as anxiety or low blood pressure. VNG is considered to be more comfortable, accurate and consistent than electronystagmography (ENG) testing.
